Creating structured grids for complex geometry such as turbomachinery scrolls is never easy. But Gridgen let engineers at Allison apply CFD to an advanced system in a way that yielded accurate cooling flux requirements for the scroll transition.

[1996] These grids for a high pressure liquid hydrogen turbopump impeller and volute were created using Gridgen by Mr. Robert Williams of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. The pressure contours on the impeller blades from the subsequent CFD solution are also shown.
